SDOT Blog » The Ten Bridges of the Spokane Street Corridor

“In general, the term “viaduct” is used to describe a bridge that does not cross a particular geographic feature such as a river or a canyon, and generally does not change elevation.”

Noted.

The 1976 bridge strike was committed by a drunken ship pilot if I remember correctly.

It should also be noted that sometime during the oughts the name was changed from ‘West Seattle Freeway’ to ‘West Seattle Bridge.’ I am unsure of the reasoning behind the change in semantics. I believe it allowed them to drop speed limits but that may be wrong. Furthermore, it is now branded the ‘Jeanette Williams Memorial Bridge.’
